Bardon says hello to Karobean Cafe

Bardon locals Liz Faulkner and Sophie O’Callaghan are ready to give the suburb a health kick, through their home-style Karobean Cafe.

The mother-daughter duo launched the cafe late last year, aptly naming it Karobean, which is the Aboriginal word for ‘together’. You’ll quickly spot the cafe from its unique recycled-timber-clad facade looking out over leafy Morgan Terrace and giant ‘K’ sitting on the roof.

Now here at The Weekend Edition, we love knowing we’re eating healthy food. But we have one main criterion – it best not taste like cardboard (cue small tantrum). Sophie and Liz have recognised this issue, and have instead created a health-focused menu with a huge emphasis on taste. Their main goal? To educate locals that ingredients they might turn their nose up at – hello brussels sprouts – can actually taste amazing. Almost everything is made in house at Karobean Cafe, from the paleo pumpkin bread with homemade chilli ricotta or almond butter, to the paleo granola. The menu is still developing, but you’ll also find the likes of fried brussels sprouts, kale and eggs, or classic avocado on sourdough with crumbled goats cheese and pistachio dukkah. Bear Bones Espresso supplies its Papa Bear blend to the cafe, and you can also sip on teas, milkshakes, smoothies and fresh seasonal fruit juices.
