Sweets and The City – Jocelyn’s Provisions opens a new locale on Eagle Street

If there was anything that Brisbane’s bustling inner city lacked, it was a Jocelyn’s Provisions location to call its own. Well, that changed this week as the cakes, bread and pastries outfit opened the doors to its brand-new location opposite the Riverside Centre on Eagle Street. Not just a colourful spot to grab a sweet treat, fresh salad, pre-made meal or a loaf of artisanal bread, this Jocelyn’s outpost is also catering to the hungry time-poor hordes with cheesy bacon-and-egg wraps, decadent croque monsieurs and lemon-and-ricotta bundt cakes.

Ever since the Jocelyn’s Provisions team hinted at an expansion to the CBD back in November 2019, denizens of the area’s high-rise apartment and office buildings have patiently waited for the heralded cake dispensary to arrive in their neck of the woods. Today, Monday October 19, that patience was finally rewarded as the doors to Jocelyn’s Provisions’ Eagle Street outlet swung open for the first time. The spacious locale, which is the beneficiary of plenty of natural light courtesy of its glass facade, boasts a crisp interior aesthetic comprised of a white-and-purple colour palette. The venue’s white-tiled counter houses two gleaming ambient cabinets – one for sweets and another for sandwiches – while assorted savoury items are kept at the perfect temperature in their own warmer in the rear. Assorted shelves are loaded with Jocelyn’s pantry fillers and hamper goodies, while cold drinks and take-home meals are housed in a dedicated fridge at one end. As is crucial for any inner-city pit stop, Jocelyn’s also features a coffee bar for peak-hour espresso slinging, with Coffee Supreme and tea from Mayde on deck for your morning sip.

Now that folks are returning to their inner-city offices in greater numbers, this morning’s opening is perfectly timed. Not only can people swing through for a taste of Jocelyn’s assorted traditional and bar cakes, caramel slices, brownies, biscuits, savoury pies, rolls, and spinach parcels, there is an assortment of tailor-made goodies for the time-poor crowd. Those seeking a speedy breakfast option can devour bacon-and-egg wraps, croque monsieurs or sourdough toast lathered in peanut butter or raspberry jam. Forgot your lunch? No problem – Jocelyn’s stocks a range of fresh and toasted sandwiches, salads and some heat-and-eat meals that’ll make you the envy of your coworkers. If you’ve been good and remembered to bring in your lunch, then you deserve a treat! A selection of bundt cakes (available in flavours such as lemon and ricotta, orange and yoghurt, and cinnamon-and-pecan swirl) are new to the Jocelyn’s range, while every Thursday the outlet will fill its cabinets with an assortment of loaded croissants. Think heavenly options including salted-caramel-filled croissants coated in milk chocolate and lemon curd, and vanilla-cream-filled pastry that has been dipped in white chocolate and freeze-dried raspberries.
