JAMROC Jamaican Jerk Chicken opens in Fortitude Valley

Offering Caribbean soul food, JAMROC Jamaican Jerk Chicken has made the pilgrimage from the Gold Coast to Brisbane. Owner Daimian Parkes opened his first JAMROC restaurant in Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast in 2010, and has been drawing Brisbane folks down the coast to sample this unique cuisine ever since.

While the older brother location has a slightly more expansive menu, the new Fortitude Valley corner shop is more ‘Jamaican Express’, serving fast meals of jerk chicken to eat-in or takeaway. Jerk is the name given to the traditional method of Jamaican cooking, where the meat is marinated in a unique blend of herbs and spices to soak up the flavours and aromas key to the jerk style, before being chargrilled.

This age-old, authentic Jamaican style of fare is served on the bone, in a burger or wrapped up at JAMROC, with the heat able to be tailored to suit all tastes. Ranging from mild to tastebud-testing very hot, the spice levels come in Chilled Out, Traditional Spice, Hot Affair or Rasta’s Revenge. Patrons can order a whole chicken on its own or served as wings, with sides of chips and gourmet coleslaw rounding off the meal.

The Kingston is your staple burger, featuring marinated chicken breast, garlic mayo, tomato, onion and lettuce, with each consecutive burger on the menu adding to this base. The ManDeville comes as a burger and a wrap and sees marinated chicken breast joined by a spicy Caribbean ketchup, melted cheese, tomato, avocado, onion and lettuce. There’s also a vegetarian option of the Ital Wrap with rice and peas, chargrilled capsicum, tomato, avocado, onion and lettuce on offer.
