Good news for folks that happen to work in The City – Industry Beans has opened up a brand-new coffee spot on Adelaide Street, just a hop, skip and a jump from Central Station. The caffeine crew is following up the 2019 arrival of its flagship Brisbane cafe and roastery in Newstead with this savvy metropolitan move, which echoes the brand’s similarly sized expansions into Sydney and Melbourne’s CBD precincts. Industry Beans Adelaide St. sits near the bustling intersection of Adelaide and Edward Streets and comes fully equipped with a space-age coffee bar (complete with all the bells and whistles) as well as seating for ten. Melbourne-based architects March Studio conceived the outlet’s responsive design, with a clean and contemporary colour palette of white and grey given texture via detailed panelling on the walls and ceiling, raw concrete floors and plenty of natural light courtesy of the glass facade.

Whereas Industry Beans in Newstead offers a leisurely sit-down dining service, its cosier Adelaide Street sibling follows a more streamlined operational model targeting  the peak-hour rush and express grab-and-go orders. That being said, the coffee selection is still incredibly comprehensive, starting with the standard milk-based espresso coffees (made using Industry Beans’ Newstead blend) and encompassing rotating single origins for batch-brews sips, as well as the brand’s signature cold-brew drinks range. These chilled beverages include the likes of the Industry Beans’ Bubble Coffee (cold-brew coffee, coffee-soaked tapioca pearls, and condensed and oat milk), the Fitzroy Iced (Fitzroy Street cold brew, wattleseed, organic panela and milk of choice), cold brew (available off tap or in still or sparkling canned varieties), and preservative-free and locally made cold-pressed juices. If you’re feeling peckish, a treats cabinet contains regular and almond croissants from Chouquette as well as choc-chip cookies, honeyseed bars and peanut-butter brownies, which are made daily in the Newstead kitchen. Bags of coffee beans, brewing equipment, biodegradable coffee pods, and ready-to-drink cold-brew cans are also available to purchase.
