Howzat Burger, Brisbane City

Philip Johnson’s Howzat Burger pops up in Brisbane City

A well-executed burger can be the cure for many ills, from a particularly brutal hangover to a serious case of the hangries. A new pop-up burger joint in Brisbane City will even make your workdays bearable.

We’re calling it: Thursdays and Fridays for the next two weeks are dedicated Burger Feasting Days. Clear those work meetings and pack the bib into your briefcase, because this is one pop-up your mouth won’t want to miss. Howzat Burger is a new test project from esteemed Brisbane chef Philip Johnson, who will be hosting the temporary burger joint in his Adelaide Street venue from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Thursday and Friday January 23–24 and 30–31.

These aren’t the miserable sloppy joes of your youth, but rather gourmet beauties expertly crafted by local chefs with quality ingredients. Sink your fangs into fillings like grain-fed beef with cheddar cheese, vine-ripened tomatoes, lettuce and aioli, or roast pork belly with classic ‘slaw, lettuce and chipotle mayonnaise. Other options feature cumin-spiced lamb or chickpeas with mint yoghurt, and chicken breast teamed with grilled bacon and avocado mayonnaise. The gluten intolerant won’t go hungry either, with a gluten-free option available. All burgers will be a flat $10 with sides of chilli and herb-salted fries, classic ‘slaw with chipotle mayonnaise and beer-battered onion rings available for $5. Top off the feast with a nutella, banoffee, vanilla or coffee shake or grab a bottled beer or glass of wine.
