hot spiced apple toddy recipe

Warm blue lips with a Hot Spiced Apple Toddy

While in the city we may not have the luxury of growing and picking our own apples to create a home brew of cider, we can still indulge in a hot apple toddy come winter. Rekorderlig has a Winter Cider of apple, cinnamon and vanilla, which may not require the additional maple syrup depending on how strong a sweet tooth you have. You may also like to adjust the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg added to the hot apple cider to suit your preferred level of spice. Enjoy on a chilly, rainy evening while curled up on the couch with a blanket and a good book. This recipe makes one drink, but we doubled (and quadrupled) the amounts to make a larger batch to share with friends.

INGREDIENTS

30 ml Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold Rum
150 ml apple cider
1 tsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Garnish
Ground cinnamon
Caster sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 lemon curl

TO MAKE

To warm up the apple cider, combine cider, maple syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg in a saucepan on medium heat for 10 minutes. Heat until cider becomes very hot, but not boiling.

Meanwhile prepare the garnish. Mix cinnamon and caster sugar together in a little cup before pouring onto a flat surface. Press the rim of a glass into the cinnamon and sugar mix to coat the edge. Next, use a vegetable peeler to create a curl of lemon rind.

Add the spiced rum to the sugared glass. Once cider is hot, remove from stove and pour on top of the rum. Add the cinnamon stick and lemon curl to the glass to garnish.
