Hoo Ha Bar opens in South Brisbane
Combining fresh local food and drink in a relaxed, industrial-inspired atmosphere, Hoo Ha Bar is the latest venture to grace the burgeoning South Brisbane scene.
The cafe-meets-bar is the creation of three lads – Declan Law, Michael Slatter and Anthony Lindenmayer – who dreamt up Hoo Ha Bar five years ago, put the wheels into motion 18 months ago and finally opened the doors this week. Passionate about good-quality produce, the lads are serving a small but refined selection of food and drinks, choosing each product for a reason and only serving dishes or beverages they believe in.
For the moment, Hoo Ha Bar acts solely as a day cafe, serving Supreme Roasters coffee and intriguing but accessible dishes. On the menu is the likes of Cannellini Bean Smash, Rosemary, Chilli, Orange, Lemon and Grana Padano served with Garlic Croute and Gratinated Ricotta with Lemon Thyme, Fig, Chilli and Candied Tomato with Turkish bread. A liquor licence application is in, so the venue will hopefully be serving some thirst-quenching Australian beers for patrons to enjoy over grazing plates and good conversation with friends in the near future.
Having stripped back the interior of this corner space on Tribune Street, the group uncovered a rustic brick wall and some high ceiling beams, melding old and new furniture with a bit of greenery. Hoo Ha Bar is open this Thursday March 28, then will be closed for the Easter long weekend, before reopening next Tuesday.
