Pavement Whispers: Latin American social club Hey Chica! set to open in Fortitude Valley
Brunswick Street Mall, the epicentre of Fortitude Valley’s buzzing nightlife precinct, will soon be home to a colourful newcomer. Hey Chica! – the newest bar and snack spot from the Hallmark Group – will be drawing upon the vibrant culture of Cuba for its offering and atmosphere, channeling street-party vibes through the heart of Brisbane’s party district.
Between its existing Fortitude Valley venues Retro’s Cocktail Lounge and Finn McCool’s Irish Pub, and its Caxton Street landmark Lefty’s Music Hall, the Hallmark Group knows how to create some enlivening ambience. The hospitality crew is expanding its portfolio of local nightspots with forthcoming concept Hey Chica!, which takes elements of heaving block parties and old-school backstreet bars to create a multi-purpose party hub. Hey Chica! will also scratch the itch of those with a travel bug, channelling the vibrant charm of Cuba and Latin America as a whole.
Hey Chica! will be taking over the mall-fronting site most recently home to Beirne Lane (which is conveniently situated between Hallmark venues Retro’s and Finn McCools), but the Hallmark Group will be completely swapping the existing aesthetic for old-world decor saturated in a kaleidoscope of colour, much like the historic backstreets of Havana. Details of the offering at Hey Chica! is still being kept under wraps, but we’ve been told to expect a menu shaped and inspired by Latin America’s diverse street-food scene and a cocktail list boasting flavour-packed concoctions. A roster of DJs will be keeping energy levels high nightly, too – so be sure to wear your dancing shoes when Hey Chica! opens later this year.
