Say hi to King Street’s new Korean fried chicken joint Hello Chicken
If there’s one thing that spurs pure, unadulterated happiness, it’s sitting down to an overflowing basket of golden, crispy chicken. Seriously – typing those words has already given me goosebumps. The smell of the spicy sauces that make our nostrils flare, that crunch of the first bite, that glazed, post-feast smile that no wet wipe can remove – that’s what life is about, folks. King Street’s newest hot chicken hotspot serves Korean-style fried chicken that comes with enough variety and flavour to make Colonel Sanders hang up his string bowtie in shame.
Much like its conjoined neighbour Sushi & Nori, King Street’s Hello Chicken is owned and operated by Eat Gangnam, which has expanded from Sydney to bring some fresh and exciting eats to Bowen Hills. The first thing you’ll notice about Hello Chicken is its simply adorable facade, which takes the shape of a bright yellow Kombi van and attached trailer. As golden hour arrives, bright fluorescent signs beam into the evening, acting as a beacon for those wandering the streets seeking beer and chicken. A casual eating area is assembled outside, where patrons can order from Hello Chicken’s trailer portion before picking up a tap beer from the front Kombi bar. If you prefer to be sheltered from the elements, head inside and get cosy under the warm lighting while browsing the menu.
Hello Chicken’s menu offers tasty fried chicken prepared and served five different ways. In addition to original fried, Hello Chicken’s menu also gives the option of soy garlic chicken, Korean chilli chicken, snow cheese chicken and crazy-hot chilli chicken. Patrons can order a whole or a half bird and go to town – but remember to keep room for the sides. Crispy chips come salted, spicy or with cheese (the fries feature a mix of shoestring and thick-cut fries plus some cheeky potato gems thrown in), and you can also order coleslaw, skewered rice cakes, celery and cucumber pickles, and beetroot and radish pickles. Hello Chicken also serves soft drinks, tap beer and wine to wash down your feast.
