Gourmet corner shop Dan & Andy’s Hawthorne Garage opens

An epicurean cavern nestled along Hawthorne Road, Hawthorne Garage presents a world of grandiose provisions and delicious coffee for the local passerby. Open early and closing late, Hawthorne Garage is the perfect pit stop for nine-to-fivers, with easy lunch options of pre-packaged soups, salads and rolls, as well as tubs of muesli and yoghurt for breakfast or a treat.

Favourite local products like Barambah Organics yoghurts, The Bagel Boys bagels, Leavain bread and sweet treats from Jocelyn’s Provisions fill the shelves, alongside other gourmet fine foods ranging from relishes and oils to Tartufo truffle cheese and organic juices. Crunchy apples and sweet-smelling oranges are piled high amongst the fresh produce, while beautiful bouquets are bundled by Campbell & Bradley in the flower nook.

Paddock-to-plate theories are realised in the high-quality cuts of meat on offer, including shavings of prosciutto and pancetta, with Dan & Andy’s Hawthorne Garage placing importance on where food comes from and what has gone into producing it. A corner fruit shop, deli and grocer all in one, Hawthorne Garage takes pride in delivering old-fashion service. Housed in what was a 100-year-old garage – aka petrol station to you younger folk – owners and brothers Dan and Andy have maintained the ancient-looking service list at the front in homage to the building’s past.

The adjoining hole-in-the-wall coffee window attached to Hawthorne Garage delivers DNA Espresso – DNA standing for Dan ‘n’ Andy – serving coffee crafted from 100% Arabica beans. Pull up a hessian sack ottoman, rest your coffee on a raw wooden crate and admire the thoughtful design and tempting treats, before taking home some gourmet frozen pasta for a quick dinner.
