Happy Little Dumplings opens at The Barracks

Dumpling fever is rampant around town, with specialist locales offering the moreish parcels from hole-in-the-wall outlets all over the city. The Barracks is the latest precinct to join in the fun, thanks to the opening of Happy Little Dumplings.

The art of nibbling a dumpling daintily may be lost on most of us, but at least we can now get plenty of practice with the fourth addition to the Happy Little Dumplings family officially opening at The Barracks this week. Operating out of a narrow slice of shopfront that was formerly one half of Coaldrakeā€™s Bookshop & Espresso Bar, the new dumpling den has been serving a roaring trade with its handmade goodies. The concept store hints at the way of the future for Happy Little Dumplings, starring new equipment and a tweaked menu that will soon be replicated in the Bulimba, James Street and Corinda outlets.

But fear not, dumpling devotees, The Barracks menu still features the popular signatures of barbecue pork buns and mixed junkie packs, as well as an extensive range of dim sum and steamed buns. From prawn and coriander to pumpkin and sweet potato, these winning combinations are the creation of founders Candice Collier and Mellita Rayner. Enjoy your jiaozi, har gow and shu mai for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and top it off with soon-to-be-available sweet steamed buns featuring the likes of dark chocolate with fig or white chocolate with coconut.
