Green Juice recipe

Enjoy a post-New Year’s cleanse with a Green Juice

The festive season is always heavy with indulgence of both the food and drink varietals. If you feel your body needs a refresher, but not to the point of a complete juice detox, try making a single juice first thing each morning to kickstart the day. Of course, any fruit or vegetable you choose to juice will be delicious. We like adding a little ginger to aid digestion, and cucumber is a good source of silicon, refreshing the hair and skin (and supposedly reducing wrinkles) after a dehydrating silly-season drinking spree. You could also add half a bunch of watercress, which helps to energise cleansing enzymes in the liver. Just remember to add a little more apple, or perhaps some pineapple or orange, to further mask the taste of the greens if desired.

INGREDIENTS

3 carrots
2 stems kale
2 celery stalks
1 cucumber
1 beetroot
1/2 lemon, peeled
1 apple
3 cm slice of ginger, peeled

TO MAKE

Combine all ingredients in a juicer, before adding a few ice cubes to cool your juice. If you don’t have a juicer, peel and chop all ingredients and add to a blender. Blend until as smooth as possible, before straining the mixture through a sieve to remove excess fibres.
