Last drinks – Granddad Jack’s is closing its Albion distillery this weekend

The team behind Gold Coast-born and family-run distillery Granddad Jack’s has sold its Albion distillery to new owners ahead of a planned expansion to Europe later this year. Fans of the distillery’s craft spirits and cocktail bar are encouraged to pop in for one last drink before the venue closes on Saturday July 6.

When Granddad Jack’s opened its Collingwood Street distillery and tasting room mid way through 2021, it heralded an exciting time for Albion. Alongside fellow newcomer Craft’d Grounds and established players like Fonzie Abbott, Granddad Jack’s helped turn the inner-north suburb into an exciting hub on the rise.

Persevering through post-pandemic hurdles and catastrophic flooding events, Granddad Jack’s evolved into a spot cherished by the community, with cocktail lovers and spirit-savvy sippers tapping the distillery’s tasting room as a top spot for drinks.

Unfortunately, with the distillery’s export business growing across Europe and Asia, the Granddad Jack’s team has made the tough call to sell its Brisbane location to new owners in order to better focus on opportunities abroad – including opening its first European Granddad Jack’s Bar Experience in Copenhagen within the next
6–12 months.

“Out of our three venues, this has been the toughest one for us to manage, and we need to make tough decisions to continue growing our brand,” said Granddad Jack’s CEO and co-founder David Ridden in a press statement. “We haven’t ruled out returning to Brisbane in the future to open a Granddad’s Bar like the one we have in Newcastle, but right now, we are committed to growing our business internationally.”

Granddad Jack’s Albion’s last day of trade will be Saturday July 6. Fans and supporters are encouraged to come along for a good old-fashioned party. As for the future of the site, the distillery will continue to operate under new branding and with new owner-operators taking over the production and cocktail bar. We’ll have more information soon.
