Gramercy Espresso & Eats, Brisbane City

Gramercy Espresso & Eats opens in Wintergarden

With its name inspired by Gramercy Park – a two-acre fenced-in private park in Manhattan – Gramercy Espresso & Eats is a new cafe nook located off the Edward Street laneway entrance of Wintergarden. Taken from grand merci in Old French, ‘gramercy’ also means to express gratitude or surprise.

Surprising city folk with its bright abode under the Winnie Bridal stairs, Gramercy serves up well-crafted coffee and fresh, homemade eats. With a penchant for pocket-like spaces (his first venture was Cie Waffles in Fortitude Valley), Mitch Suchowacki has applied his love of of simplicity done well to the new city space. Catering to the breakfast and lunch crowds of Brisbane City, Gramercy sees sweet and savoury delights made in-house from fresh, seasonal produce.

Bringing specialty coffee beans to the city, Gramercy is using a blend from Sydney’s architecturally savvy Reuben Hills roasters. Mitch and the team are also bottling their own fresh juice concoctions – think guava, kiwifruit, honeydew and lime – and making their own iced tea and chai. Quick cabinet offerings and a sit-down menu are on offer, with seating for the well-designed pocket unfolding into the interior lane. The petite space exhibits a strong palette of emerald and blue, with dashes of wood amongst white tiles and sleek black pipe shelving.
