It’s a gelati party! Gelato Messina has finally arrived in South Brisbane

We’ve been waiting oh so patiently for this day to arrive, but now it’s finally here we’re not sure what to do with our hands. Full-blown pandemonium is threatening to break out with the news that at 5:00 pm this afternoon, Wednesday March 29, Gelato Messina will open the doors to its very first Brisbane gelato parlour. We’re so happy we could cry, but we’ll compose ourselves just long enough to avoid watering down our sweet, sweet gelato. We’re officially saying goodbye to our summer bods without a shred of remorse – Gelato Messina is here now, and that’s all we need.

For too long our ‘buddies’ on the Gold Coast have been unbearably smug about the fact that there is a Gelato Messina down south, but not in Brisbane. Well, in a few hours we’ll be able to retort through mouthfuls of creamy gelato of our own when Gelato Messina Brisbane opens to the public this afternoon. It’s been a while coming, but when the dessert is this damn good we can’t help but be forgiving. For those living under a rock and haven’t heard the news (time to join society, pal), Gelato Messina will be opening at the base of The Melbourne Residences in South Brisbane, showing off cabinets chockas with a range of iconic flavours to drool over in a stylish high-ceilinged space that is the biggest in the country.

If you are sceptical about how gelato could be worth this much fuss, first of all – why are you even here?, and second of all allow us to enlighten you to the wonderful world of Messina. The new store will be stocking 35 standard flavours of gelato and sorbet, with iconic choices including the likes of Italian nougat, poached figs in marsala, apple pie, salted caramel and white chocolate, pandan and coconut and strawberries and cream. All the gelato is churned on site and made fresh from natural ingredients, with a new flavour served up every weekday. The likes of apple pie and croissants are actually crushed into the mixture – this is the real deal. Patrons can also nab a Gelato Messina milkshake and thickshake with their favourite flavour, and the iconic range of specialty cakes is available to take home and enjoy. That’s not all – extra-curious patrons will be able to sign up for gelato classes in June, held in a cheeky glass-walled private area. Those keen for a gelati party can take appreciation sessions or hands-on classes to delve deeper into the making of Messina magic (as if delving face first into a tub wasn’t good enough).

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Gelato Messina will be serving a special flavour to locals. The QUEENSLANDAARRR!!! is made from ginger gelato with pineapple cake and Bundaberg rum caramel. We also hear rumours of Gelato Messina’s special Easter eggs making an appearance very soon. If we were you, we’d be staking a spot outside to be the first through the doors.
