Party like it’s 1982 – Gelato Messina is re-releasing its Gaytime and Viennetta-inspired hybrid gelato tubs

For many Australians born in the 1980s or 90s (or maybe just this writer in particular), there is little that can beat the nostalgia-inducing flavour sensation that is the Golden Gaytime. Toffee and vanilla flavoured ice-cream, dipped in chocolate then covered in mouth-watering golden biscuit pieces – what more could you want? That is, unless, the Gaytime is faced with the ultimate contender – the equally (if not more) kitsch Viennetta ice-cream cake. How could one ever decide? Thanks to our friends at Gelato Messina, you don’t have to.

Almost a year after its initial (very well-received) release, Gelato Messina’s Gayinnetta Hot Tub is back, for a limited time only. Combining one of the gelateria’s most popular and long-standing specials, the Golden Gaytime-inspired Have A Gay Old Time, with its classic Messinetta, the Gayinnetta Hot Tub is a hybrid made in gelato heaven. The take-home tubs will feature chocolate-covered biscuit crumbs smashed into creamy layers of caramel and milk gelato, topped with a signature Viennetta-style ripple created with vanilla and caramel chantilly cream.

So, how can you get your hot little hands on this hybrid Hot Tub? Pre-orders will open for Queensland at 9:00 am on Monday May 30 for all stores, then you need to choose your pick-up day and time between June 3–5 (just a reminder – that’s my birthday week, if any of my friends are reading this). Then simply pick up at your designated time and location (Fortitude Valley or South Brisbane) and you’re on your way to having a gay old time!
