Taste the sweetness from Brisbane’s new mobile dessert dispensary Gelato à go-go

Although the summer days are waning, gelato season is a year-round occurrence for us perpetually hot Queenslanders. A hot-to-trot food truck is set to hit the streets of Brisbane this week, slinging scoops of gourmet gelato almost directly into our mouths and we can’t wait. Gelato à go-go is putting wheels to asphalt and dispensing Italian-inspired desserts from a smartly appointed and beautifully restored vehicle.

Andrew Lucas’ introduction to the world of street food came from an unconventional source. As a classic car enthusiast, one of Andrew’s beloved pastimes is importing and restoring vehicles. While living in Europe for more than a decade, Andrew noticed several beautiful restoration jobs on classic vans in the local food truck scenes. It wasn’t long before Andrew spotted a gorgeous French Citroen H Van and decided to give it a new life in the same vein. After moving back to Australia, Andrew had the van restored in the UK before shipping it to Brisbane for final fit-outs on the Sunshine Coast. From there, Andrew decided that the best usage for the van was as a gelato dispensary, installing Pozzetti gelato chambers for optimal refrigeration and implementing some stylish branding for what is now Gelato à go-go.

When it came time to fill up the tubs with sweet, sweet dessert, Andrew decided to team up with the best. Gelato à go-go dishes out scoops of award-winning gelato made by Maleny Food Co, offering a rotating selection of eight flavours at one time, which is only a small fraction of Maleny Food Co’s 100-strong flavour list. Maleny Food Co has scored top honours at the Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show and the Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Product Show with it gelato, which is a huge testament to its quality. Andrew will be showcasing the classics to start, and will gradually offer more inventive flavours based on customer demand. Gelato à go-go will be popping up at regular food truck spots around town organised by the Brisbane Food Trucks team, but keep an eye on Gelato à go-go’s Facebook and Instagram pages for weekly location updates.
