Gayle (derived from ‘gay ale’) is a pro-equality beer and cider producer dedicated to celebrating and supporting Australia’s LGBTIQA+ community. Gayle is, as it refers to itself, Australia’s first and only independently owned gay beer and cider company – a colourful concept that came to life at the hands of Virginia Buckworth, who was sharing a few drinks with an intergenerational group of family and friends discussing the inequalities faced by the LGBTIQA+ community in the lead up to the same-sex marriage vote last year. The conversation sparked an idea to create a powerful (and delicious) vessel to spread the message of equality, love and unity across the country – and from that, Gayle was born.

The South Australian-based brand was launched at Adelaide’s Feast Festival in November last year with two flagship brews – a pale ale and a cloudy cider – and has since been making its presence known in the country’s lively craft-brewing scene.
