Gathar is here to take your dinner-party game up a notch
If you’re the friend who owes a hundred dinner party invitations but don’t have the time, inclination or skills to make it happen, meet the new entertaining partner that’s going to solve all your social woes.
Before Gathar, entertaining had the ability to strike fear into even the most confident of home cooks. All that menu planning, grocery shopping and ingredient prepping, never mind the laborious multi-tasking of maintaining conversation while cooking and plating up. But now the fine folks from Gathar have hatched up an alternative, where all you need to do is choose a menu and invite your mates. Your selected Gathar Culinarian will rock up to your house or holiday pad with all the ingredients, prepare the meal in your kitchen and serve your guests before cleaning up after all you dirty animals. Think a casual Sunday lunch, formal dinner party, recovery brunch, baby shower or birthday party you don’t have the headspace to think about. The platform even allows guests to split the bill, making it an ideal alternative to eating out for those harbouring irrational toddlers or preferences for wearing pyjamas.
The philanthropic food-tech startup was launched in Cairns by web-developing foodies Nicky Jurd and Kaj Haffenden, and marketing and events professional and Gathar CEO Jodie Mlikota. The platform invites skilled cooks and chefs to turn their passion into cash, while hosts can relax knowing that all Culinarians have undergone a stringent application and vetting process. Menus on offer range from sumptuous Italian feasts to boho-inspired grazing platters and French degustations – or simply design your own and Gathar will find you the right cook for the job. The platform is currently available in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Port Douglas, with more locations to be announced soon.
The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Brisbane dining guide with more than 2400 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
