Discover the benefits of coconut oil with Gano Direct
Most of us love oil – we fry eggs with it, we bake vegetables and cakes with it, and we toss it into salads and drizzle it over pastas. But are we using the right oil for the right job?
The coconut oil revolution encourages us to think about the humble tropical coconut as more than just a holiday treat to be sipped in a hammock. Coconut oil can be added to to our daily life to inspire happiness and wellbeing. So, here are the basics!
Coconut oil turns into energy not fat as it is a MCFA (medium chain fatty acid) unlike LCFA (long chain fatty acids) such as Soybean, Canola, Corn, Olive oil, Lard and chicken fat. LCFA’s when ingested break down through the intestines into the bloodstream and turn into fat. This is the source of fat that collects in our fat cells and collects in and clogs our arteries. MCFA’s are metabolised in the liver and immediately converted into energy (fuel for the brain and muscle function) rather than being stored as fat.
Because coconut oil is a MCFA, it gives it a higher smoking temperature than most polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils. If you’re preparing recipes that require high temperatures you should consider coconut oil for this type of cooking. Unlike olive oil which will oxidise at high temperatures, creating free radicals.
