Espresso bar Flux on Ann opens in Fortitude Valley

Self-proclaimed dreamers, Doug and Mike have always envisaged opening their own espresso bar. Now the pair – who left careers in finance and banking – has turned daydreams into a reality, opening Flux on Ann.

Meeting traditional espresso bar and complete cafe halfway, Flux on Ann is focusing on hot and cold beverages and sweet organic treats. Brisbane coffee roaster Aromas is providing the coffee and hefty tea selection, with Doug and Mike also making a mean frappe. To nibble there’s an extensive range of cakes and brownies from local baking legends Leavain, including Raspberry Coconut, Pear Polenta, Orange Poppyseed, Flourless Chocolate and Carrot cakes, Blueberry and Spelt and Walnut brownies – with the majority gluten free. These decadent towers of delicious organic goodness also come accompanied by a scoop of ice-cream or cream to round off the treat.

Leavain sourdough, fruit toast and banana bread are also on hand for breakfast-goers, and handmade chocolates will soon be joining the menu. Flux on Ann is planning to open for daytime trade until around 3:00 pm, and then, depending on popularity, reopening around 7:00–8:00 pm for those who enjoy a little espresso nightcap. Etiquette of opening hours: if the lights are on, tap on the door and one of the lads will make you a coffee – the machine is always on.
