New Fitch Espresso opens in Newstead

A pint-sized coffee joint is serving cups of gutsy Cuban coffee from a converted stairwell in Newstead.

Fitch Espresso may be small, but it’s certainly packing a punch. The hole-in-the-wall caffeine stop only rolled up the garage door and kickstarted the coffee machine in mid-October, but it’s already won over the locals with an innovative fit-out and robust espresso blend. What was once a neglected stairwell has now been converted into a charming Newstead hangout, complete with car delivery service for those lucky enough to nab the parking spaces out the front.

Just a few doors down from watering hole Tippler’s Tap, Fitch Espresso is maintaining the liquid focus with coffee beans sourced from Cuba and roasted locally in Newstead. Local yoga teacher and designer Christopher Fitch brings his passion for coffee and friendly customer service to the venture, blending four different roast profiles to form a rich brew. Non-coffee drinkers can choose from refreshing Oolong or herbal Gone Surfing blends from T2, or a range of soft drinks. Iced coffee and smoothies will soon hit the drinks menu, as well as an additional rolling variety of coffee bean. For now, Byron Bay Cookies stave off the belly rumbles but more substantial food options are expected to be available in the new year. Keep an eye on the Fitch Espresso Facebook page for updates.
