Takeaway treat shop Fillo & Co opens in West End
Fillo & Co has opened its doors in West End, offering artisan ice-cream, handmade chocolate, Mediterranean baked goods and coffee under the one roof.
Commencing with a coffee window with addictive Portuguese tarts on display to passersby, Fillo & Co will slowly extend to all offerings, with handmade Belgian couverture chocolates ready for Easter, and artisan popsicles, choc tops and ice-cream sandwiches part of stage two. Owner John Mantarakis is crafting everything by hand, with all ingredients sourced within 50 kilometres of Brisbane where possible.
One half of the shop will serve as a coffee lab and Mediterranean pastisserie with cold-filtered coffee and Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Greek and Turkish pastries and breads. Rouge Coffee at South Bank has fashioned a special blend for Fillo & Co –a mix of beans from Brazil, Papua New Guinea, Colombia and India. The local office crowds will soon be able to pre-order a $10 lunchbox in advance, containing a main, side salad and treat. John is also embracing the digital age of coffee ordering, with a coffee app in the works. After winter passes, homemade gelato will, too, be on the cards. Drop by this weekend to pick up some special Easter treats.
