Esher St Cafe & Deli opens in Tarragindi

New Tarragindi locale Esher St Cafe & Deli employs the ethos that everything in-store is made or sourced from locals – keeping the origins of the products known, the food miles down and growing local business.

A new breakfast, lunch and deli offering, Esher St Cafe & Deli is the creation of Sep and Fergus from Alcove Cafe & Deli in Wilston, as well as their coffee distributor Jai and fiancee (and baking extraordinaire) Nikki. On the shelves you’ll find coveted brands such as Alter Ego chocolate, Secret Pantry relishes and conserves, Mama Marilena biscuits, Farmer Jo’s muesli, Food Jeanie peanut paste and tubs of honey from hives in Annerley.

The team has fashioned the space themselves, building shelving inside and seating outside from recycled wooden pallets, with Nikki also handmaking the cushions. Beautiful wooden floors and lighting hanging from a vintage ladder continues the rustic homely feel. The extra room allows Esher St to stock more of a range of homewares and gifts than at Alcove, including wooden and hand-stitched gift cards, tea-cosy-topped teapots, Dandi tea towels and an abundance of pot plants.

Translating the local produce philosophy to the plate, Esher St serves breakfast and lunch, accompanied by West End-roasted Veneziano coffee. The Corn Fritters with avocado and fetta smash, sour cream, fresh greens and toasted sourdough caught our eye, as well as the haloumi stack of local haloumi, tomato, grilled eggplant, garlic butter mushrooms, locally made relish, greens and sourdough. Early morning visitors can pick up a fresh loaf of bread for their morning toast, or stock up on cheeses, cured meats, dips and olives for an impromptu picnic.
