Woodfired pizzas and rock ‘n’ roll combine at Caxton Street’s Enzo & Sons

The surname Webb has pretty darn instrumental in the rebirth of Caxton Street – bar tsar and restaurateur Jamie Webb is who we all thank for Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall and Seymour’s Cocktails and Oysters. Caxton Street’s latest addition, however, is not the handiwork of Jamie, but rather his clever wife Siarah. This weekend Siarah will present us with the gift of Italian food and a whole lot of spritzes, with her new bar and restaurant Enzo & Sons.

Much like any excellent Italian restaurant, Enzo & Sons is built on three winning elements – good food, good times and good music. The bar and restaurant is due to open this weekend in the site previously occupied by Statler and Waldorf, having been given a mini makeover complete with booth seating, a whole lot of greenery and a fresh mural in the courtyard courtesy of graffiti artist Treazy Treaz. Enzo & Sons takes inspiration from Trattoria da Enzo in Rome, a favourite of Siarah and Jamie’s, with executive chef Jonathan Bryant (who also oversees Jamie’s group) creating a menu of wholesome Roman-style eats.

The existing woodfired oven, which was installed back in the 1980s, will be back in action for pizzas (made on 24-hour fermented dough), served alongside small bar snacks, pasta and salads. You can start your feasting with the likes of kingfish crudo with blood orange and radish, crispy polenta with mushroom and gorgonzola, and woodfired tomatoes with pangrattatoThe pizza selection is primo – think pork and fennel sausage with scarmoza and roasted onion, prosciutto with artichoke, fior di latte and dressed rocket, and mushroom with San Marzano tomato, tallegio and oregano. Pastas and fresh salads (hello zucchini carpaccio) also feature, as well as Italian-style sweets to finish up. Meaty specials will pop up, making full use of that woodfired oven, however the menu features a vast array of delicious vegetarian options. Enzo & Sons will also host regional Italian dinners each month, showcasing the varied flavours of Italian food with matched wines.

When it comes to liquid delights, Enzo & Sons has a strong focus on classic Italian cocktails and spritzes. The Garibaldi will be the staple house drink (Campari and freshly squeezed orange juice), or you can choose to sip anything from grapefruit spritzes to Americanos and Aperol Spritzes on tap. Now we know what you’re thinking – we’ve covered good food and good times … where’s the good music? Patience, dear friend. The expansive back courtyard has been given a fresh new look, and will host young local bands playing live every Sunday.
