Sweet dreams are made of cheese at Albion’s Emile & Solange
We’ve been waiting patiently for Emile & Solange to open at Vielle Branche and from today we now have delicious imported cheeses of all kinds at our fingertips. Is there such a thing as pre-cheese sweats? If so, we’ve got ‘em.
If you are a fan of creamy bries, sharp cheddars or aromatic blue cheeses, prepare to lose your proverbial marbles. French ex-pat Sarah Thuillet has just opened Emile & Solange, a cheese and fine foods store at the front of Albion’s Vielle Branche on Fox Street – a dedicated haven for cheese connoisseurs and small goods fanatics. Inspired by Sarah’s grandparents (named Emile and Solange) who owned and operated a crémerie and fromagerie in Normandy, the store brings together imported artisan cheeses from Europe and pairs it with a curated selection of goods sourced from around Australia.
Take note – we’re not talking about any old stinky cheese here, this is the good stuff. Emile & Solange stocks the likes of Gres des Vosges from Alsace, Alpine cheeses such as Beaufort D’Alpage and Abondance, Raclette Livradoux (with raclette grills available to purchase or rent), Petit Berthaut from Époisses and goat’s cheese from Cabecou du Perigord in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France. This is only small selection of the 55-plus varieties on offer, with a large contingent of Australian cheeses hand-selected by Sarah herself including goat’s cheese from Brisbane, Jersey brie from the Adelaide Hills and farm chèvre from Meredith. If you are serious about cheese platters, be sure to browse the selection of mild, hot and herbed saucissons, cured meats and smoked ham as well as olives and tapenade from Mt Stirling, Edmond Fallet mustards and Miellerie honey from Tasmania. Be sure to check in often (as if you could resist) as Sarah will also be looking to source terrines and pates as well as more cheese varieties to swoon over.
