Queensland’s best and brightest celebrated at the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards
We could have already told you that Brisbane’s got one of the best and fastest growing hospitality scenes in Australia, but it’s nice to see others catching on as well. Australia’s best young culinary talent is being celebrated at the annual Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards, which is including a host of Brisbane all-stars. The judging panel has announced nominees for its 2017 ceremony, which is being held outside of Melbourne or Sydney for the very first time.
While perhaps culinary awards aren’t as intense as say, State of Origin, we still love to get behind local talent whenever we can. The Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards celebrates the best young talent currently operating in Australia’s food and drink industry, and we’re stoked to see several Queenslanders nominated for 2017. The judging panel consists of some seriously knowledgeable personnel, including multi-hatted chef Peter Gilmore, Christine Mansfield, Lisa van Haandel and Danielle Gjestland. The group has spent months finding Australia’s best up-and-comers in the Australian food industry, narrowing the field down to a few top-flight individuals.
Some of Queensland’s best are going up against equally talented individuals from across Australia in three major categories. The 2017 Electrolux Australian Young Restaurateur category features one Queenslander among national finalists – Erin Jordan from The Catbird Seat Bistro in East Brisbane. Wasabi Restaurant & Bar’s Lara Graham, Mia McIntyre from e’cco bistro and Morgan Golledge from Blackbird Bar & Grill are up for the 2017 Electrolux Australian Young Waiter category, while Ben McShane from Kiyomi and Josh Raine from Urbane are in the running for the 2017 Electrolux Australian Young Chef award. The winners will be announced on Monday August 14 at the ceremony held in Noosa.
