EI8HT redefines Fortitude Valley’s nightlife with an inclusive approach

For more than 17 years the Family Nightclub has been a mainstay of Fortitude Valley’s party scene. Now the Katarzyna Group is shaking things up by rebranding and rejuvenating the storied establishment with an eye on promoting inclusivity and out-of-the-box entertainment. EI8HT is set to be a beacon of good times for all when it opens the doors to the public on Saturday June 17 with one heck of a party.

When we turned 18, one of our first trips to The Valley involved a visit to Family. The iconic megaclub has hosted some of the biggest names in music over the years, but a shake-up will see the establishment offer a new brand of entertainment to inner-city revellers. Now known as EI8HT, the multi-level building has undergone some changes in ethos and look, expanding upon the core tenements of its popular party night Fluffy to concentrate on offering a safe space and inclusive environment for all comers. Upon launch on Saturday June 17, EI8HT will operate two key nights – ONE on Saturday and Sunday-night staple Fluffy. Both evenings will showcase a range of live entertainment and will turn up the heat in the party stakes.

EI8HT’s interior has received some tweaks in look as well as approach. The expansive downstairs room features a mezzanine level with booths looking down on the stage and primary dance floor, while an interactive LED wall will soon be installed for some illuminating fun. The second level has seen some of the biggest changes, with the entire floor converted to the Flaming Canary – a place where the drinks flow and the entertainment sizzles. The Flaming Canary will be the place to be for ONE on Saturday, showcasing a range of burlesque entertainment curated by Jacqueline Furey. The cocktail bar boasts a rotating podium stage for performances, while drag queens will be strutting their stuff and acting as hosts all night. For those looking for a quieter respite, the ominous-sounding Bone Room will be the place for you. Don’t let the bone chandelier put you off, it only adds to the eclectic vibe. The coming months will see the completion of the Flaming Canary Rooftop Bar, which will boast its own drinks offering and lively atmosphere.

EI8HT will be kicking off festivities for its inaugural ONE on Saturday this weekend, Saturday June 17. Check out the Stumble Guide for more information.
