Philip Johnson is well known in Brisbane foodie circles for his exceptional cooking and fine dining institutions, so it came as a welcome surprise when he announced that his pop-up burger joint would become a permanent fixture in Brisbane. But of course these aren’t just any old slapdash sloppy joes, Johnson and his team have sourced the finest cuts of meat and freshest local produce to craft the $10 burger menu. Tuck in to combinations like cumin-spiced lamb with balsamic barbecued onions, tomato, lettuce and mint yoghurt, or the chicken breast and grilled bacon with red onion, lettuce and avocado mayo. Operating from 510 Adelaide Street, Howzat Burger is now open for lunch four days a week, from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm Tuesday to Friday.

On the opposite end of the gourmand spectrum, Johnson’s other baby e’cco bistro will be celebrating its 19th birthday with a special ‘Classics’ set dinner menu dropping by for a three-week appearance in March. One of the city’s most iconic dining spots will be treating diners to a five-course feast of its most popular dishes, which is sure to spark a few fond memories amongst the regulars. Sample favourites like the Moreton Bay bug risotto with fennel and chilli, and fresh Atlantic salmon with spiced avocado and burnt orange vinaigrette. The Classics menu will be available Tuesday through to Thursday evenings from March 11 to 27.
