Dumplings and beer, a dreamy combination at Harajuku Gyoza

Beer and dumplings. Loud and fun. Simple food, done well. That’s what the creative minds behind Harajuku Gyoza are delivering to Fortitude Valley’s dumpling obsessed.

Since opening in November, there has been an endless line of customer-sans wrapping around the corner building, in want of a table (or spot at the bar) on which to pile plates of salted endamame, grilled and poached gyoza dumplings and Japanese beer.

Inspired by the perfection of the silky pastry wrappers filled with steamed meaty fillings in Harajuku in the Shibuya Ward of Tokyo, the Harajuku Gyoza team incorporate the freshest seasonal produce into their best-of-both-worlds crescents – soft on the top, grilled crunchy on the bottom. Handmade, un-sticky and fresh from the pot to your mouth, dip these addictive parcels in your personalised soy sauce and wash down with a stein of Kirin.

Order Izakaya style – a little grilled duck, poached pork, vegetable and sweet apple, in any order, again and again. Beware the infectious desire to order sake, even if it’s just to experience the happy face staff’s song and dance over and over. Leave with a full tummy, cloudy head and amused heart.
