Holey smokes! Doughnut Time is back with four new stores

Doughnut Time’s shocking collapse left many stunned in its aftermath. Out of nowhere we were stricken by the sudden absence of the brand’s delightfully sweet treats, which had become a nation-wide phenomenon seemingly overnight. Enterprising gent Pete Andros couldn’t sit idly by and let a good thing fade away so quickly – not when hordes of doughnut lovers were left wanting. Pete has picked up the Doughnut Time baton, rejuvenating the brand and relaunching it with four new stores across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, complete with a collection of classic Doughnut Time flavours and some inventive additions.

A few short years ago it was almost impossible to avoid Doughnut Time. The dessert dispensary chain with the recognisable bright-green facade had popped up all over Brisbane before expanding interstate and overseas. This year’s highly publicised collapse of the Damian Griffith’s hospitality empire featured a number of closures, but few of those were as beloved as Doughnut Time. Not long after the chain shuttered the concept was sold to new owner Pete Andros – a chap committed to reviving the doughnut brand and saving it from being a footnote on the list of ‘could-have-been’ empires. After six months of tinkering, three new Doughnut Time locations opened over the weekend – The Myer Centre and South Bank on Friday November 30, and Burleigh Heads on Saturday December 1. A fourth Doughnut Time in Westfield Coomera will be serving up sweet treats before the year ends. Pete hasn’t looked to dismantle the concept – he has instead kept the brand familiar while upping the quality and adding some fun tweaks here and there.

Doughnut Time’s resurrection started with a social media call out – Pete and his team wanted to know what customers loved about Doughnut Time originally. With this information, the crew got to work rejigging the menu to boast both classics and exciting new ideas. Old favourites including The OG, the M&M-loaded Slim Shady, Love at First Bite (with all its Nutella-filled goodness) and It’s Always a Gay Time are back, joined by newbies such as Ya-Ya Baklava, the unicorn-sprinkled My Little Doughny and the banana and caramel custard-filled Hollaback Girl. Pete has retained the vegan doughnut range too and will be adding health-conscious options in the future.
