Pavement Whispers: Albion’s Craft’d Grounds reveals details of its forthcoming dining and lifestyle precinct

If we told you there was a venue in Brisbane that housed a craft-beer brewery, specialty espresso bar, street food and farmers market, patisserie, wine and cocktail bar, and live-music facilities, you’d probably say that such a unicorn-like venue didn’t exist. You’d be technically right, but not for long! Today, Wednesday March 17, the team behind Craft’d Grounds is revealing the first details of its forthcoming 2600-sqm all-in-one hospitality hub. Here’s what we know …

Albion is a suburb on the move. In addition to the suburb’s abundance of hospitality favourites including (but not limited to) Fonzie Abbott, Albion Provisions, Vaquero, Artie & Mai and Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters, developments like the forthcoming Albion Exchange will establish the fast-growing suburb as one of Brisbane’s most exciting areas. In a few months Craft’d Grounds will join the ranks of Albion’s next wave, with its sizeable multifaceted dining and lifestyle precinct set to open on Collingwood Street this May. The project (engineered by the owners of The Black Market, Collingwood Black Espresso & Bar and event space The Black Brisbane) is repurposing a cluster of industrial and warehouse buildings (including a 100-year-old former timber mill) into a veritable one-stop destination.

Craft’d Grounds will be filling its sizeable footprint with a jaw-dropping roster of tenants, headlined by a 500-sqm brewery and craft bottle shop, a national coffee roaster with specialty espresso bar, coffee shop, and a wine and cocktail bar. Street-art-lined laneways will connect Craft’d Grounds to The Black Brisbane’s event space and Collingwood Black, while street food and farmers markets will regularly call the site home. An on-site gourmet patisserie, fromagerie and charcuterie will give locals access to artisanal goods, a live-music space will showcase local talent and a private bar and dining section will be highly prized for those celebrating special occasions. Conrad Gargett director John Flynn and Craft’d Grounds co-founder James Rennell have collaborated on the development’s design, which takes cues from Melbourne laneways, laid-back Byron Bay strips and The Grounds of Alexandria, interweaved with a distinctly ‘Made in Brisbane’ feel courtesy of some raw industrial and rustic architectural elements.

Craft’d Grounds is targeting a May launch date – stay tuned for more news on the precinct’s operators in the lead-up to this exciting opening.
