Savour the flavour of country produce direct from farmers

The Granite Belt’s unique microclimate and healthy soil is attributed to the abundance of wonderful country produce that floods from its farms and inundates country and city farmers markets. The growers behind the scenes, tending to the soil, planting the seeds and nurturing the plants are the warriors of quality responsible for bringing such wonderful produce to our kitchens and tables.

More and more consumers want to know the story behind their country produce purchases and actively select produce based on origin of the farm and the spirit in which it is produced. The best way to find this out? Talking directly to the farmer at your local market.

Sharon from Stanthorpe of D & S Norton and Sons is one such farmer who attends a number of Brisbane markets weekly to share the stories of her seasonal crops. Sharon is passionate about being an actual farmer at the markets and about the produce of her local community, that she sells alongside her own at her market stall. This weekend Sharon will be part of the Southern Queensland Country comes to Eat Street Markets event and she will make the drive from her 88-acre farm at Severnlea near Stanthorpe to Brisbane to showcase her farm’s latest beauties. On Sharon’s stall tables will be recently picked Roma and cherry tomatoes, silverbeet, rhubarb, green beans, broccoli, capsicum, eggplant, banana chillies, rocket, spinach and mesclun salad mix.
