Add Coolmunda Organic Olives to your cheese platter
According to some, scorching summers and frosty winters lay the seasonal foundations for the perfect olive, and it’s these conditions that make the tiny country town of Nunyara a prime olive-growing region.
Bringing certified organic olives from bountiful olive tree groves to local Brisbane providores is Coolmunda Organic Olives, an olive farm in Nunyara on Queensland’s Southern Downs. Nunyara experiences a climate similar to the Mediterranean and a rich soil base, allowing the growers to experiment with different types of olives and flavours.
The right balance of temperature, aridity, sun and water contribute to the unique taste of a Coolmunda olive, while the crop is also certified organic, meaning the olives are grown without synthetic additives. More than 5000 trees have been hand-planted on the Coolmunda property, ranging from Spanish arbequinas and manzanillos, to Greek kalamatas and volos, Cypriate koronieki and North African barouni, and each season these are hand-pruned to ensure the very best fruit is taken from the tree.
With environmentally sustainable principles at the heart of its business philosophy, Coolmunda Organic Olives processes each harvest in a solar-powered plant, which is set amidst 100 acres of native bushland and natural reserve for local wildlife. Coolmunda’s olives and olive oil can be found at Wray Organic stores throughout Brisbane, Flannerys at Taringa, Organics at Marcia’s and Plenty in West End, Julia’s Pantry at Kenmore and online at Food Connect.
