Gather with your pals at Collective Kitchen & Bar
What do you get when three food aficionados put their heads together? A combination of good food, craft beers, local produce and fun times, all in the form of Ann Street’s newest locale, Collective Kitchen & Bar.
Collective Kitchen & Bar brings together the talents of James and Alisha Kelleher (former co-owners of jak+hill in Spring Hill) and Sunshine Coast chef Scott Price, who have drawn on their combined knowledge and love of food. Overlooking Cathedral Square and St John’s Cathedral, Collective Kitchen & Bar stretches out over a vast indoor-outdoor space, with natural light spilling in through the wide windows and over the alfresco dining area. The fit-out lends itself to long lunches and grazing dinners – you can perch on a barstool and bask in the afternoon sunlight, or settle in at the curved indoor bar and watch the chefs work their magic through the open pass. If time isn’t on your side, and your soggy desk-lunch sandwich is looking a bit grim, you can call ahead to order anything from the menu to take away too.
Scott and James have worked together in kitchens on and off for more than 15 years, and have devised a menu based on the variety of styles and techniques they have experienced over the years. The result is an eclectic menu to suit the varying tastes of the inner-city food lover, with a strong focus on seasonal produce and share-style food. Breakfast is simple and easy – think toasted muesli, buttermilk pancakes and smashed avo with a selection of sides. Come lunch and dinner, however, the star of the kitchen is the custom-made charcoal grill, which churns out the likes of roasted lamb shoulder, grilled spatchcock and a selection of steaks. Small bites include soft-shell crab tacos and crispy pork belly bao, or for something a little larger you can munch on the likes of crispy whole market fish with green papaya salad, or choose from the list of pizzas and burgers.
