Soothe the lockdown blues with City Winery’s drive-through mac ’n’ cheese pop-up Mac In the Box

The recent snap three-day lockdown has been extended to four days, throwing many of our weekend plans into disarray. All is not lost, though, as the quick-thinking crew at City Winery is looking to inject some cheer into our drizzly doldrums with its new drive-through mac ’n’ cheese pivot Mac In the Box. The mouth-watering pop-up launches this afternoon – here’s what’s on the menu …

When COVID-19 forced our dining scene into hibernation in March 2020, City Winery was one of the first hospitality groups to make moves to adapt. Pop-up bottle shops and enjoy-at-home wine-tasting classes were lockdown lifesavers, so it should come as no surprise that City Winery is thinking on its feet once again during this latest snap stay-at-home period. From 4:00 pm today, Friday July 2, City Winery’s Wandoo Street micro-winery will host Mac In The Box – a pop-up drive-through concept slinging belly warming, gooey mac ’n’ cheese packs and takeaway wine, running all weekend.

City Winery’s kitchen is pulling out all the stops for its menu of fancy, decadent feeds. The offering starts with the classic three-cheese option (which has been elevated with inclusion of artisan dairy) and moves towards ultra-luxe riffs like truffle-infused mac ’n’ cheese, Italian pork, fennel and tomato mac ’n’ cheese, and a seafood-infused mac boasting scampi and seafood bisque sauce. Those cruising through can also supplement their order with one of City Winery’s mulled-wine kits or a bottle from the extensive Gerler Wine range. If you need to rethink your dinner plans, head to the Mac In The Box website to browse the range and order ahead.
