Anouk opens champ kitchen + bar at South Bank
A new foodie creation by Justine Whelan (of Anouk fame) has opened at South Bank. Located on the ground floor of the ABC’s headquarters, champ kitchen + bar is the first of many new restaurants that are set to open up on the Cultural Forecourt end of South Bank’s main street.
At champ kitchen + bar, earthy wooden panelling features along the back wall, while industrial tones are found in the bare concrete walls, exposed pipes and looped lighting encased in wire cages. Serving European-Asian cuisine, champ is open for breakfast and lunch every day, with a relaxed dinner sitting on Thursday to Saturday nights. With river views and close proximity to QPAC, enjoy a crisp glass of wine and early dinner as the sun sets over the water, before you head off to a show.
Buttermilk Pancakes with Caramelised Banana, Cream Maple, Coconut Flakes and Praline Sprinkles feature alongside flat field mushrooms and hash cake offerings on the breakfast menu, boasting an Anouk-with-a-twist feel. Sweets and snacks in neat containers are stacked along the barfront for a takeaway treat, while the Market Table offers a selection of small plates that change every two hours. Within the cabinet you might find bircher muesli and banana bread for breakfast, or cakes and slices for morning and afternoon tea.
