View food from a different angle in Eat | Love

Perhaps you shovelled a piece of toast down your gullet before you hailed the bus to work this morning, and maybe you’ll knock together whatever is left in the fridge for dinner tonight. But while our daily meals are often at risk of becoming yet another half-noticed part of our everyday routine, some people on this planet strive to give food the undivided attention and consideration it deserves. Dutch ‘eating designer’ Marije Vogelzang is one such artist, dedicating much of her working life to questions like, how far did my pineapple travel? How many fish are left in the sea? And if you don’t want to eat meat, then why do you want your vegetarian substitute in the shape of a sausage? Step into Marije’s world and view food from a different perspective in Eat | Love. more

Dan Barber: How I Fell In Love With A Fish
Food & Drink

Man searches for a sustainable fish he can love

When you pierced your fork into the flesh of your fish last night, did you spare a thought for where it may have come from, and how its death may have affected the ecosystem? Dan Barber certainly has. It was this concern for the sustainability of fish that motivated the chef and educator to embark on a surprisingly difficult mission to track down seafood that was farmed in an ethically responsible way. The project took him all the way to Spain, where he discovered a fish he could well and truly fall in love with. Dan shares his findings in a TED talk, entitled How I Fell In Love With A Fish. more

Give a Fork! campaign

Sustainable Table asks us to Give a Fork!

Sustainable Table is asking us to consider the seafood that goes onto our barbecues and plates with its inaugural Give a Fork! campaign. With the aim to highlight issues within the seafood industry, Give a Fork! spreads awareness so consumers can make ethical and environmentally conscious decisions when it comes to consuming seafood. From October 7–14, get involved by hosting a sustainable seafood or vegetarian dinner party, asking your guests to donate what they would have spent on a night out. The money raised will help Sustainable Table continue to build a fair and sustainable food system through educational resources and events and development projects locally and abroad. Restaurants can also sign up to be part of Give a Fork!, so participants can choose to dine out inside of cooking at home. Local restaurants can email [email protected] to sign up. more
