The labourious process of slicing ingredients, heating delicious concoctions and transferring the precious creation into a jar is sometimes unattainable in our busy schedules. Get philanthropic with Boxed Water Is Better

Like the Italians are teaching us that coffee (good coffee) can come in a can, the Americans are letting us in on the little secret that water is better when boxed. Inspired to create a brand of bottled water that is better for the environment, Michigan-based Benjamin Gott came up with boxed water. Boxed Water Is Better delivers your packaged, transportable hydration source in sustainable, recyclable packaging, where the cardboard is made from trees from certified, well-managed forests. Boxed Water Is Better even donates 10% of its profits to reforestation foundations, with another 10% donated to water relief foundations. Pick up your carton of cool, refreshing boxed H2O from Southside Tea Room.   more

The Street Photographer: Spring Hill Deli Cafe

For a few weeks last month, Spring Hill’s beloved red deli opened the doors to its new cafe counterpart, putting the menu to trial and gathering feedback from friendly locals. But the owners already had a trip to Italy planned, so we saw the doors shut again for three weeks, while they tasted their way around the Mediterranean. Back in business and full of inspiration, the ladies have pieced together a new menu, with sweet-tooth favourites like the brownie sundae and peaches and cream milkshake staying put. A new mural has joined the space, while the sweet pots of herbs and flowers in jars remain. Slip in for an early breakfast, before popping next door to the deli to pick up a panini to takeaway for lunch in the park later on. Check out Spring Hill Deli Cafe on The Street Photographer. more

Corner Store News moves to Indooroopilly

The traditional general store is where a community comes together. Fathers walk up the road to collect the day’s papers and chat to their suburban neighbours, while kids ride their bikes, eagerly hoping for a bundle of five-cent lollies to devour. It’s the place you head to for last-minute baking ingredients, and somewhere you can always count on for general everyday items. One of the best corner shops keeping age-old good service alive was Cat & Fiddle News & Convenience Store in Toowong. While it has just relocated to Indooroopilly, you can still seek out the same fresh fruit and vegetables, papers and magazines and other household essentials under its new name of Corner Store News. The art of a master butcher

Meat can be a touchy subject. Some are against the consumption of it entirely, while others show appreciation for the animal by using all possible elements. One of the best butchers in the world, Italian Dario Cecchini comes from a lineage of eight generations of butchers – the role passed down from father to son. A contemporary butcher, Dario has moved away from the methods his father and grandfather employed, envisioning an ethical and sustainable future for the meat industry. Opening up his practice to include a restaurant, Dario now shares his methods via meals as well. Trying to reshape the way people eat and appreciate food, Dario inspires others to take meat seriously, proving that eating well means enjoying food from your land with the people around you. Waking early, while the kids were still tucked in bed, Dad would walk up to the corner shop for the weekend papers, a loaf of bread and a stick of butter.
