Discover the Roberta’s empire in Brooklyn

Known for producing some of the best pizza in New York, Roberta’s in Brooklyn is much for than a restaurant. This video gives a sneak peek into the multiple layers of the Roberta’s empire, chatting to head gardener Melissa Metrick. The Bushwick site is also home to a garden space, where the team grows its own vegetables in raised garden beds atop shipping containers, and recycles and reuses a lot of found materials like old sinks into pots for plants and storage containers that use to house barley to shape the space. The DIY cooperative also houses beehives and a bakery, with younger-brother, sleek tasting kitchen Blanca also quietly nestled behind the buzzing pizzeria. more

Big eats with The Burger Adventure

The Burger Adventure is a manly food blog formed by four gents with a passion for beef, buns, cheese and sauce. Dishing up the lowdown on the history of each burger joint, the design of the space and chef specialties, each blog post also sees the four resident writers delivering an in-depth analysis of their burger-eating experience. Packed with drool-worthy photos of toasted buns sandwiching lush dollops of melted cheese trickling down the side of a beef pattie, The Burger Adventure almost makes you wish you could marry a burger – or at least encourages a prompt sprint to Just Poppy’s at Riverhills. By the end of each post, you’ll know the top burger to try, the number of serviettes you’ll require to mop up your juice-covered hands afterwards, the type of dress code appropriate to the venue and the level of sleepiness that the ensuing food coma will induce. more

Bar Alto explores Italy’s Piedmont at lunch

Snuggled up against the Alps and neighbouring France and Switzerland, Italy’s Piedmont region is known for hearty braised meats, fonduta, gorgonzola and white truffles. This region is highlighted in Bar Alto’s lunch menu for April. Each month, Bar Alto at Brisbane Powerhouse brings focus to a new region from somewhere in the world, with head chef Sajith Vengateri’s latest selection Italy’s Piedmont, letting patrons slip into a perhaps unknown pocket of the world for a few hours. Using fresh produce, the lunchtime menu on Tuesdays through Saturdays sees Risotto ai Porcini (made on porcini and other seasonal mushrooms) or the hand-cut egg pasta and chicken liver ragu for entree, while the featured mains include Brasato al Barolo (beef short ribs in red wine with buckwheat polenta) and the highly authentic Bollito Misto alla Piemontese of mixed boiled meats and traditional sauces. more
