Authentic Little Spain Paella street food for the lunchtime crowds

Food entrepreneur Steve Crick has spent most of his life in the small goods butchery industry. One of Steve’s successful businesses Brathaus, now run by his son Ben, located in Paddington and Fortitude Valley pays homage to his love of authentic, specialty meats. However, it was after a trip to Spain and experiencing the wildly exotic atmosphere of Paella cooking on the streets that Steve became passionate about the craft of paella, and introduced his version of paella to the Brisbane City Markets under the name Little Spain. The Little Spain specially-built food trailer holds six one-metre thin based Paella pans and feeds the city lunchtime crowds, offering a selection of traditional valenciana, seafood, chicken chorizo and vegan flavours. Steve is passionate about quality ingredients and sources his genuine chorizo from Spanish butchers in Sydney, as well as importing… more

Find Sandy Creek Macadamias at Eagle Farm Markets

The Weekend Edition came across Scott MacNicol from Sandy Creek Macadamias at the Eagle Farm Markets. Scott's boutique farm at Anderleigh north of Gympie produces a number of Australian macadamia nut products ranging from butter, muesli, oil, and nuts ranging from raw to roasted, salted and flavoured. Not only do his macadamias taste great but they are also great for your skin and hair too, so Scott introduced health products under the Earth Botanical range, including body moisturiser, hair products and facial products. Like fruits, vegetables and other nuts, macadamias are a nutrition powerhouse – beneficial to health and wellbeing. And, as Scott professes enjoying a handful of nuts regularly is great for a healthy diet. more

Find fresh olives by Olives You at the Saturday Fresh Market at Rocklea

The Saturday Fresh Market at Rocklea is currently overflowing with an abundance of fresh ripe olives. A definite favourite amongst Brisbane locals is olive stall holder Olives You. In the summer of 1998, the owners, David and Valerie, planted 500 olive trees on their property at Mutdapilly in Queensland. While they awaited their first crop, they sourced Australian olives to sell at the Eumundi Markets on the Sunshine Coast so that they could learn as much as possible. Their business thrived and they expanded into infused olive oil, vinegars and spices, and didn’t have time to harvest their own trees. Olives You olive oil is all Australian, which is considered the best in the world – free from pesticides and herbicides and bursting with flavour. They have created their own range of infused olive oils, from blood orange, lemon myrtle, basil, garlic and rosemary, just… more

The vibrant colours of stone fruit are now on display at your local markets

One of the best things about Christmas in the summer time is that it is finally stone fruit season. Peaches, lychees, nectarines, cherries, apricots are ripe, in abundance and bursting with flavour. Tasty stone fruit, named because of the stone-like seed inside, make perfect snacks, as they tuck easily into lunch boxes or picnic baskets. Rich in vitamins A, C and E, as well as dietary fibre, potassium and antioxidants, these vibrant fruits pack a potent nutritional punch. There are so many ways to use these delicious little morsels. Fresh frozen Lychees provide an energy boost for the kids by the pool (sticky fingers immediately resolved), and nothing beats peaches and nectarines caramalised on a tart with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Come silly season, a crafted selection of stone fruits are the classic Australian accompaniment to the Christmas table. more
