Inside look: all-vegetarian Mediterranean eatery Sunshine opens on James Street

If you’ve meandered down James Street in the last week or so, you would have spied a collection of sunray-hued umbrellas casting a warm glow over a welcoming olive-tree-lined courtyard. As of Wednesday April 20, those umbrellas will be shading hordes of hungry revellers devouring home-style Mediterranean cuisine by the plate when much-anticipated vegetarian eatery Sunshine officially opens its doors. The sun-dappled eatery is the latest concept from seasoned restaurateur Simon Gloftis (and business partners Theo Kampolis and Kelvin Andrews), positioned a short stroll across James Street from his acclaimed restaurants Hellenika and SK Steak & Oyster. Beloved cake and dessert maker Mountain River Patisserie unveils its new cafe in Runcorn

In the heart of Runcorn there exists a cluster of streets that share a particularly appetising produce-inspired naming scheme. Orange Street and Lemon Street branch off one side of Mango Street, while Pear Street and Plum Street peel away perpendicularly from the other. Down where Mango Street hits Nectarine Street, just an apricot-pit toss from Fruitgrove Station, sits the new home of Mountain River Patisserie. Though not a dispenser of berries, citrus, melons or drupes, the product produced here is just as sweet. After spending its infancy operating from Food Connect's Salisbury kitchen, Mountain River Patisserie now has a beautifully decorated cafe space of its own, where fans old and new can sample the dessert maker's handmade Hokkaido cheesecakes, castella and canelés alongside cups of specialty coffee, tea and matcha. more

Brisbane City in 2022 is a far cry from its identity in the latter half of the 1800s. The area now loosely ringed by George Street, Edward Street, Elizabeth Street and Alice Street was once a mangrove-filled swampland called Frog’s Hollow, a name that endured as this section of town evolved into Brisbane's first red-light neighbourhood. At this point the area was regarded as a hotbed of seedy action, with gangs of thieves and drunkards said to frequent gambling dens, brothels and boarding houses. It's this shady part of the city's history that Frog's Hollow Saloon takes its name.
