Good Food Month arrives in Brisbane

We like to live by the mantra that ‘good food month’ happens 12 times a year, but as the nation’s largest food festival kicks off in cities around the country, we’d have to agree that October is set to be spectacular. Good Food Month is set to turn on Brisbane’s tastebuds this month, with a range of unique offers and special events happening in dining venues around the city. The Let’s Do Lunch series will see esteemed Brisbane restaurants offer some fantastic specials, while Hats Off Dinners will encourage hatted chefs to cast their usual menus aside and get creative in the kitchen. Never one to shy away from flavour, Alfredo’s Pizzeria has launched a new menu for summer, along with a Vespa delivery service. Warm-weather Italian favourites like grilled peaches wrapped in prosciutto come nestled in a salad, while arancini come stuffed with succulent mushrooms and a stringy centre of mozzarella. We hear the new American Idiot pizza of braised beef short rib, gorgonzola, pancetta and barbecue sauce is well-worth the napkin-heavy mess it leaves you in. In collaboration with new head chef Mathias Andersson, founder Philip Johnson has pared back the restaurant’s menu to create an offering specifically tailored to the corporate crowd. Taking inspiration from the modern bar and grill restaurants peppered throughout Singapore and Hong Kong, the bistro has simplified the ordering process with the goal of speeding up the wait time for time-constrained city workers. The new menu is split into sections, inviting diners to build their own meals by selecting their protein of choice, an accompanying side and a finishing sauce. A focus on local, organic produce sees classic combinations like 180-day grain-fed Angus eye fillet adorned with red wine jus and a green bean with freekeh… more
