Finca Kilimanjaro now roasting at Wolff Coffee Roasters

In a southern hemisphere coffee coup, Master Roaster Peter Wolff of Wolff Coffee Roasters has managed to exclusively source the single origin bean Finca Kilimanjaro directly from the revered and renowned coffee producer Aida Batlle. Described by The New Yorker as a fifth-generation coffee farmer and a first-generation coffee celebrity, Aida Batlle owns four farms located along the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano. Her family has been involved in El Salvador’s coffee industry since the late 1800s when Aida’s great great grandfather was the first to plant the Bourbon variety. El Salvador is now famous for producing some of the best Bourbon in the world. Where to refuel while shopping at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre

Your Christmas gift-buying strategy may be doing small bursts at a time, or committing to an all-day marathon so you can walk out of the centre doors knowing you're not coming back. Either way, Christmas shopping is so much better when you start with a coffee, break for a coffee, and then break the afternoon stretch with a sweet indulgence (and of course, more coffee). To ensure you're sustained on your gift-buying missions, The Weekend Edition has put together a guide to refuelling at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre this silly season. more

Grow mushrooms from coffee waste

The leftover grounds from your daily morning cup may currently be going straight into the bin, but they could be going into your garden instead. Not only are coffee grounds excellent for layering through your garden soil, but they also make a great substrate for growing mushrooms. In Dublin, some eco-minded folk put on their thinking hats and founded Mushroom City – mixing coffee grounds with mushroom spawn to create growing kits for home gardeners. The team collects the grounds from partner cafes around the city via its Mushroom City cargo bike, then mixes the coffee with Oyster spawn and packages it into mini farms ready for delivery to newfound green thumbs. more

Make mornings seamless with a notNeutral glass coffee dripper

The clever folk behind Los Angeles-based architecture firm Rios Clementi Hale Studios spent so much time sipping excellent Californian coffee that they took it upon themselves to begin crafting their own range of coffee equipment. The latest addition to the notNeutral clan is the GINO glass coffee dripper, which is made from hand-blown, laboratory-grade borosilicate glass that insulates while highlighting the extraction process. This lightweight contraption sits perfectly atop the LINO mug to create a seamless pourover brewing system, and has been designed in collaboration with world-class baristas. notNeutral designed its collection of cups and mugs with both form and function in mind, while providing optimal dynamics for both pouring and drinking coffee. The GINO glass coffee dripper works with the Kalita filter #185 and the Tiamo filter #02. more

A glimpse at global takeaway coffee cup designs

A journey through takeaway coffee cup designs from around the globe, Coffee Cups of the World is a documentary project by New Zealand food photographer Henry Hargreaves. Always on the road, Henry found himself intrigued by the coffee cup designs he came across and the important role they play as advertising for a cafe, something that is often overlooked. Henry has so far photographed cups from Europe, United States, Australia and New Zealand, with a friend in South Africa also pitching in a few. Henry is also encouraging others to submit images of disposable coffee vessels to expand the project’s reach. Follow the journey on Tumblr and Instagram. more
