Coffee and sandwich bar Deli Dakota is dishing out hearty hand-held eats in Mount Gravatt

As far as suburban cafes go, you couldn't do much better than The Gift Shop in Wishart. It wasn't uncommon to see a crowd of locals milling around the Civic Fair car park on a weekend, either awaiting a seat or their takeaway order. Staff greeted regulars by name and newcomers with the same kind of genial charm. While The Gift Shop's departure from its Newnham Road home is a bummer for local clientele, the cafe's essence lives on one suburb over in Mount Gravatt East, where spiritual sibling Deli Dakota is turning out stacked sandwiches and stellar coffee on Badminton Street. We cruised by recently for a look at what's on offer and can confirm that the sangas are sensational and the smiles are as bright as ever. more

Head to Scarborough’s new coffee and brunch spot Good Company for bang-on bagels and batch brew

With its close proximity to the pristine waters of Moreton Bay, Scarborough is already one of the best-looking suburbs you're likely to find. While it may score top marks in terms of location, Redcliffe Peninsula's northernmost neighbourhood has been lacking in the specialty coffee department for years. Well, that might no longer be the case. Good Company – a brightly beatific cafe from one of the brains behind lauded inner-city caffeine nook Anytime Coffee – opened in Scarborough earlier this year and has quickly become a local institution. How? Thanks to a simple recipe of sensational specialty grade caffeine, a brunch menu headlined by kettle-boiled bagels and the kind of friendly vibes that are an essential at any contemporary chow spot. more
