The round-up: sweet dreams are made of cheese – Brisbane’s cheesiest dishes

Ever heard of the term C.R.E.A.M? It stands for 'cheese rules everything around me'. Give me a bunch of cheeses and I'll Edam all! I know what you’re thinking, “Haha, that joke was a gouda one!” To that I say thank you, friend! I love cheese so much I’ve changed my middle name to Gruyère. I’m not the only one that loves the stuff – several of Brisbane’s eateries are cheese fiends too. To prove it, we’ve put together a list of some of the cheesiest meals in town. If you are lactose intolerant, consider this an apology in advance. This piece might be a bit torturous for you, so I won’t be offended if you’re feeling bleu and can’t read any further. For the rest of you cheese lovers, feast your eyes on these bad boys! more

The round-up: food you loved as kids – all grown up

Before you say anything, we know that you can still enjoy fairy bread any time you choose to make some. And yes, you can boil a pot of cheerios and eat them one by one while you watch Netflix – we're not judgemental types (unless you forget the tomato sauce, then shame on you). What we will say is that sometimes your treasured memories are best left alone, and that if you are looking to revisit some of your culinary habits from when you were five, you might be a bit disappointed. Several places around Brisbane are putting a spin on our old favourites, making them more suitable for an adult palette. Here is a collection of some food you loved as kids, all grown up. more

Bruno’s BNE brings big smiles, benedict and banoffee French toast to Tarragindi

We don't like comparing Brisbane to our friends down south. But one thing we do love about Sydney and Melbourne is the community vibe you get in the suburbs – locals flock to their neighbourhood cafes, restaurants and bars without feeling the need to venture towards the city. So you can imagine the joy it brings us here at The Weekend Edition when increasingly each week, we are seeing more and more exciting openings in the suburban areas of Brisbane. This week Bruno's BNE has opened its doors in Tarragindi, bringing specialty coffee and delectable eats to the leafy suburb. more

The Burrow moves into its cosy new West End digs

At the end of July, we sadly had to say goodbye to The Burrow on Mollison Street in West End. For a couple of tough months we mourned the cosy space, waiting patiently for the eatery to reopen in a new location. Well at last the time has come, dear readers. The Burrow is back and its better than ever. more

The round-up: places you can get smashed avocado in Brisbane for less than $22

So there’s a bit of a brouhaha going ‘round with this avocado on toast business. If you haven't heard, Bernard Salt recently claimed one of the reasons millennials can’t afford houses is because they spend too much money on smashed avocado on toast – at roughly $22 a pop, by his estimate. Don't let Bernie scare you dear readers. There are plenty of places around town for you to get your beloved smashed avo on toast for less than $22, and you can throw your spare change into a jar to put towards your house deposit. Or you know, a trip to Europe. But if Bernard has truly got you worried that you’ll never be able to afford a house because of your hectic smashed avocado habit, then feel free to save that $22 a week and make it at home! And you can season your avocado with your salty tears of joy knowing that in 125 years you might have saved enough money for a house deposit. Good… more

Sip suburban brews from morning to midnight at Craft Brew House

Before we begin, a vocabulary lesson. Brew noun [drink]. Meaning 1. a kind of beer, or 2. a cup or mug of tea or coffee. Birkdale's newest watering hole Craft Brew House is dedicated to both kinds of brew, serving warming cups of joe in the first half of the day, and trading groupheads for taps as the sun starts to move across the sky. more
