Get your primo pastry fix at Sprout Artisan Bakery’s James Street pop-up

Those of you who picked up baking as a lockdown pastime can attest that making sourdough from scratch is something of an art form. Every time our attempts resulted in lumpy inedible bricks, our respect for bakers went up several notches. The team behind Sprout Artisan Bakery have not only nailed the art of bread making, but have the golden touch when it comes to just about any form of baked goods. Fans of Sprout's covetable croissants, divine danishes, tantalising tarts and spot-on sourdough loaves will be stoked to hear that the crew has just opened a new pop-up retail location on James Street – handy for carb-loving folks who feel baking is best left to the professionals. more

Woolloongabba brunch spot Pawpaw teams up with Sprout Artisan Bakery and friends for a pop-up bakehouse

If anything is going to get us through self-isolation (without going completely crazy), it's the sweet relief of baked goods. With eggs, flour and just about everything you need to bake at home now listed as a hot commodity due to growing demand, it looks like homemade banana bread may be off the quarantine menu. Luckily for us, Woolloongabba's much-loved brunch locale Pawpaw has got our carb-loving backs. The crew at Pawpaw is teaming up with Sprout Artisan Bakery as well as a few other local heroes to launch a weekly pop-up bakery and market. The temporary bakehouse will be packed to the brim with treats such as flaky French-inspired pastries, piping-hot cinnamon doughnuts and sugary slices that'll surely tide us over until grocery shelves get restocked and life returns to a (relatively) normal state. more

Highly anticipated restaurant Agnes opens … as Agnes Street Bakery Pop-Up + Bottle Shop

Imagine spending years working on a concept of a venue. You find the perfect space. You begin to build the ideal team. You work towards a date. You get ready to open. Then a worldwide pandemic and government-mandated hospitality shutdown stops you right in your tracks. This was the reality for highly anticipated restaurant Agnes in Fortitude Valley, which was due to open in late March. So, like basically every other restaurant, bar and cafe still open, the team had to make some serious changes to the concept – and Agnes Street Pop-Up Bakery + Bottle Shop was conceived. more

Mica Brasserie breathes new French-inspired life into Breakfast Creek Wharf

It seems – quite clearly – that Shannon Kellam isn't one to rest on his laurels. The award-winning chef and restaurateur, together with his wife Clare, is behind Bowen Hills favourites Montrachet and King Street Bakery, and this year is set to see a huge expansion for the family-owned business. The duo – and its powerhouse team – has taken over culinary operations at the new Breakfast Creek Lifestyle Precinct (the home for LSH Auto Australia’s Mercedes-Benz Brisbane dealership and Queensland’s Sotheby’s International Realty), with a multifaceted plan to roll out over the year (government restrictions permitting). One of the first stages is casual riverside eatery MICA Brasserie, a patisserie, bar and bistro set to bring the once-tired Breakfast Creek Wharf back to life. more

Nothing is more pleasing on the eyes (and the palate) than a picture-perfect cupcake. Almost. more
