House of flavour – Casa Cibo opens up its new Chermside digs

In one of the biggest years in the suburb’s history, Chermside is capping off 2017 with a bang. After months of anticipation, Casa Cibo has finally opened its doors, welcoming hungry hordes to come in and try its menu on for size. Fill your stomach with ambrosial anipasti, perfect pizza and pasta and seductive sips – Casa Cibo should be at the top of your list if Italian cuisine is your game.

The deal
It’s safe to say that Westfield Chermside has experienced a massive year. The centre’s huge new food precinct brought a smorgasbord of eats to Brisbane’s northside, including Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co., BiN 931, The Bavarian, Bootlegger and more, and just when we thought they couldn’t cram another opening into the calendar year along comes Casa Cibo. The latest venue from rawGROUP Hospitality (Madame Wu, Chu The Phat), Casa Cibo is bringing a family-friendly dining experience to the centre, with a sterling selection of classic Italian dishes being plated up in style. Executive chef Joey Goldman is overseeing the menu, drawing upon his experience running all six Jamie’s Italian restaurants in Australia to create an enchanting culinary affair.

The space
When it comes to space, this casa is positively palatial. Boasting a stylish aesthetic of neutral tones, marble counters, custom tiling, high ceilings and plenty of elbow room, Casa Cibo is all about making patrons comfortable. The ground floor houses Casa Cibo’s two impressive Stefano Ferrara pizza ovens, a bar and antipasti area as well as plenty of seating. Head up the grand central staircase and you’ll get a glimpse at the full kitchen, another sizeable bar, two private dining areas, more seating and a balcony overlooking the outdoor precinct below.

The food and drink
Chef Joey has been tinkering with the menu for months to ensure a majority of tastes are catered for – no easy task, considering Casa Cibo plates up breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Like any Italian restaurant worth its salt, Casa Cibo offers up shared dining with aplomb, but also allows for diners to choose their own adventure with a comprehensive a la carte menu. Kick things off with some wood-fired focaccia, tomato bruschetta or funghi fritti, before tackling a slice of Casa Cibo’s Napolitano-style red and white pizzas. There is pasta aplenty, with prawn spaghetti, linguini vongole with diamond clams and lamb ragu casarecce sounding particularly scrumptious. The main course offers up the likes of wood-roasted porchetta on creamy buckwheat polenta mash, zucchini arrosto, salmon salmorglio and sides of truffle fries, Italian greens and roasted potatoes. The bar is stocked with ample sparkling, white and red wines, as well as fixings for a range of choice cocktails.

Casa Cibo is now open! Before you make yourself at home, be sure to check the Stumble Guide for booking information and opening hours.
