Carolina Kitchen brings its bangin’ barbecue to Morningside

Before American barbecue blew up and captured the tastebuds of Brisbane locals, one humble outfit was already earning a cult following with its authentic approach to wings, ribs, burgers, hotdogs and more. Carolina Kitchen is capping off a year of expansion with a brand-new location in the heart of Morningside, stripping back its menu to its core tastebud tantalisers but keeping all the charm and care that helped it earn its fan base in the beginning.

Father-and-son duo and barbecue veterans Mike and Nigel Perry have had a huge year as far evolution is concerned. The owners and operators of cult eatery Carolina Kitchen have expanded the business far beyond its initial and now-closed Coorparoo digs, scaling back its menu and installing three new locations this year alone. In addition to popping up in two shipping-container spots on James Street and Riverland and also operating its in-demand food truck, Carolina Kitchen now boasts a new shop-front in Morningside. Adorned with an eye-catching red, white and blue theme with a feature wall adorned with photographs of Mike’s hometown (taken by his friend Angela), Carolina Kitchen Morningside has already established itself as a popular casual eatery for its east and southside followers.

A uniform menu has been implemented across all three locations, with a focused approach on the crowd pleasers. This greatest hits menu has Carolina Kitchen’s iconic selection of chilli dogs, cheeseburgers, buffalo wings, barbecue ribs and finger-licking fries, in addition to the take-home packs. The selection of hoagies and fried chicken is set to return from time to time as rotating specials, with the pies and cornbread will return in the future. Carolina Kitchen’s expansion is set to continue into 2018, with a central kitchen soon to be installed to produce and prep items for its locations, as well as a new venue to open in the first half of next year.
