Californian burger chain Carl’s Jr. brings its big juicy burgers to Brisbane

You may know Carl’s Jr. for its giant Californian-style burgers. Or, you may know Carl’s Jr. for its racy ads – yep, that’s a still from Emily Ratajkowski and Sara Underwood’s bikini-clad barbecue burger fest above. Still not ringing any bells? Well you’re sure to find out soon enough – the long-standing American burger chain has just opened its first store in Brisbane.

Although it has more than 3,500 restaurants worldwide, Carl’s Jr. has humble roots. Almost 75 years ago in California, Carl Karcher started a hot dog stand. Those hot dogs evolved to burgers, and soon enough, Carl’s Jr. was born. The burger chain now offers more than 15 burgers, including its famous Angus Thickburgers (thick isn’t an exaggeration – you can chose third- or half-pound beef patties), chargrilled burgers (Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger anyone?) and chicken burgers. After opening its first – and hugely successful – Australian store in Bateau Bay earlier this year, Carl’s Jr. has just opened inside Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal.

We’re not going to lie to you, its probably a good thing you’ll be restrained by its airport location. Carl’s Jr. is a guilty pleasure – maybe that’s why those racy ad campaigns work so well. When we say the burgers are big and juicy, we mean it. The Guacamole Bacon Thickburger comes with a huge Angus beef patty, guac, bacon, melted Swiss cheese, tomato, red onions, lettuce and Santa Fe sauce. The Super Star with Cheese has two chargrilled beef patties, melted American cheese, tomatoes, onions, dill pickles, lettuce, mayonnaise and special sauce. You can also get hand-scooped ice-cream shakes (there is an Oreo flavour – yum), chocolate-chip ice-cream sandwiches, and a pretty ridiculous breakfast burger. Enjoy, dear readers, just maybe plan a gym visit for the next day.
